Aer Lingus, founded by the Irish Government in 1936, is the flag carrier of Ireland and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of International Airlines Group (IAG) after its privatisation between 2006 and 2015. Despite expectations of rejoining the Oneworld airline alliance following its IAG takeover, it remains independent, operating under a hybrid business model and engaging in codeshares with Oneworld, Star Alliance, SkyTeam members, as well as interline agreements with other airlines. Significant shares held by Ryanair and the Irish state were bought out by IAG in 2015, resulting in the latter assuming control of Aer Lingus on September 2, 2015.
